Rosie O’Donnell Fires Back After Trump Suggests Stripping Her U.S. Citizenship

The long-standing feud between Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump has once again made headlines—this time, over an explosive new claim from the president. After O’Donnell publicly criticized his second-term win and chose to leave the U.S., Trump responded with a provocative statement threatening to revoke her citizenship. But the comedian wasn’t about to stay silent.

Ahead of Donald Trump’s second inauguration, Rosie O’Donnell made a bold decision. In an interview with CNN, she revealed that she and her nonbinary child were relocating to Ireland, citing concerns for their safety under Trump’s leadership.

“I read Project 2025 and knew right then—it was time to go,” she said. “Living in the U.S. no longer felt safe. Moving to Ireland was the right choice, and I’ve never looked back. The welcome we received here has been incredible.”

O’Donnell and Trump’s public clashes go back nearly two decades. Their rocky history began in 2006 when Rosie, then co-hosting The View, ridiculed Trump on air, calling him a “snake-oil salesman” and mocking his business record. Trump responded viciously, launching personal attacks and even threatening to sue her.

Over the years, Trump’s insults have included calling O’Donnell a “pig,” “dumb,” and a “loser.” After her comments in 2006, he told the press he intended to “take lots of money from my nice, fat little Rosie,” as he put it.

Now, tensions have flared again—this time with far more serious implications.

Trump Suggests Citizenship Revocation

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump reignited his criticism of Rosie O’Donnell, making a shocking suggestion.

“Rosie O’Donnell is no friend to our Great Country,” he wrote. “I’m seriously considering revoking her citizenship. She’s a danger to humanity. Ireland can keep her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

Legal experts quickly weighed in on Trump’s remarks. Steve Vladeck, a constitutional law professor and CNN analyst, labeled the threat “unconstitutional and coercive.”

“It’s incredibly difficult to strip someone of their U.S. citizenship, especially if they were born here,” he explained. “The Constitution only allows it under very narrow and specific circumstances. Even then, the courts must be involved.”

O’Donnell: “I Will Not Be Silenced”

Rosie O’Donnell didn’t let the remark slide. Taking to Instagram, she clapped back with her trademark sharp wit.

“Revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan,” she wrote. “I’ve never belonged to you. You don’t get to silence me.”

The following day, O’Donnell appeared on Ireland’s RTE Radio 1, where she didn’t hold back.

“Donald Trump is not just a threat to the U.S.—he’s a danger to the entire world,” she said. “I stand against everything he believes in. He’s racist, sexist, and dangerous.”

While acknowledging that the president doesn’t have the power to revoke her citizenship, she voiced concern over the Supreme Court’s recent expansion of executive authority.

“He’s already targeting immigrants without due process—what’s stopping him from pushing the limits even further?” she asked. “This isn’t democracy. This isn’t the America I knew.”
