Honeymoon Turns to Horror: Chilling Murder Plot Unfolds in Shillong
What began as a romantic getaway in the tranquil hills of Shillong, India, ended in a chilling betrayal and a deadly conspiracy. On May 20, newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi arrived in the picturesque city to celebrate their honeymoon. Just days later, Raja’s lifeless body was discovered deep in a remote gorge—stripped of his ID, wedding band, and his future.
At first, suspicion fell on Raj Kushwaha, a man believed to be romantically involved with Sonam. But as investigators dug deeper, the true scope of the crime emerged—and it was even more sinister than imagined.
According to police, Sonam didn’t just plan her husband’s murder—she orchestrated it. Authorities allege she seduced Raj with false promises and enlisted three men—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—offering them cash in exchange for Raja’s death.
Sonam allegedly tracked Raja’s movements and coordinated the ambush. Between May 23 and 24, Raja was likely lured to a secluded area and pushed to his death. After the killing, Raj returned to Indore, unaware that he too had become expendable. Investigators believe Sonam had begun seeing yet another man and intended to have Raj eliminated as well.
The web of deceit unraveled through phone data, ultimately leading to Sonam’s arrest on June 8. During questioning, she confessed to the elaborate murder plot. The case has shocked the nation—a grim reminder of how love, when twisted by greed and deception, can turn fatal.
