Texas Floods Claim Lives as Heroic Father Leaves Heart-Wrenching Final Messages for His Children

Over the Fourth of July weekend, devastating flash floods swept through Texas, killing at least 109 people and leaving more than 117 still missing. The Guadalupe River rose a staggering 26 feet in just 45 minutes, unleashing chaos—especially in Kerr County, one of the hardest-hit areas where neighborhoods were entirely submerged.

Among the many tragic stories to emerge, one stands out for its raw heartbreak and quiet heroism: that of 61-year-old Jeff Ramsey and his wife, Tanya.

The couple had been living with their dog in an Airstream trailer at the HTR RV Park in Kerrville when the rising floodwaters overwhelmed the area. Realizing that escape was no longer possible, the couple began reaching out to loved ones to say goodbye. Tanya called her mother. Jeff, with water surging around them, left voicemails for his children.

Jake Ramsey, Jeff’s son, shared the emotional moment: “He called me when he knew there was no way out. It was short. He said, ‘Buddy, I love you so much. It doesn’t look like we’re going to make it. Tell Rachey I love her too.’” In the background, Jake could hear the terrifying sound of water rushing through.

Despite facing certain death, Jeff used his final minutes to try and save others. He managed to call his brother-in-law, who was staying just 150 yards upstream, and warned him in time to escape. That warning likely saved lives—the cabin was later found completely destroyed.

“He saved their lives,” Jake said, honoring his father’s courage and selflessness even in his final moments.

Tanya’s body has since been recovered. Jeff remains officially missing, though the family believes he did not survive.

As rescue efforts continue and the state reckons with one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent memory, the story of Jeff Ramsey serves as both a sobering reminder of nature’s power and a testament to the enduring strength of parental love.
