Bride Arrested After Husband’s Shocking Honeymoon Death in Shillong

What should have been the beginning of a lifelong journey together turned into a nightmare in Shillong, India. On May 20, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi traveled to the hill city with his new bride, Sonam Raghuvanshi, for their honeymoon. Just days later, Raja’s lifeless body was discovered at the bottom of a canyon—decomposed, stripped of his wedding ring, and without any form of identification.

At first, police suspected Raj Kushwaha, believed to be Sonam’s lover. But the truth unraveled into something far more sinister. Investigators allege that Sonam herself orchestrated the crime. According to authorities, she lured Raj with false promises of love and persuaded him to join a murder plot. Together, they enlisted three others—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—offering them money to carry out the killing.

Detectives say Sonam tracked her husband’s whereabouts and passed along his location. Raja was ambushed between May 23 and 24 and pushed into the gorge. After the killing, Raj believed he and Sonam would finally be together, but he too became a target. Police revealed she was secretly involved with yet another man and had plans to eliminate Raj next.

Phone records eventually exposed the conspiracy, leading to Sonam’s arrest on June 8. During questioning, she confessed to her role. The chilling case has left India in shock, a grim reminder of how greed and betrayal can twist even the most sacred vows.
