Heartbroken Mother Speaks Out After Son Is Lured to His Death and Filmed by Teens

The mother of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright, who was gunned down in Florence County, South Carolina, is speaking publicly about the tragic series of events that led to her son’s final moments being recorded by a group of teenagers.

What began as a teenage romance quickly unraveled into betrayal, violence, and a devastating loss that has left a family shattered.

A Deadly Setup

On June 24, 2025, just before midnight, deputies discovered Trey lying on a rural road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead soon after arrival.

Florence County Sheriff’s deputies later revealed that the shooting was caught on camera—footage that has now become critical evidence.

The following day, 19-year-old Devin Scott Raper of Conway was arrested, accused of pulling the trigger during a heated dispute. Less than a week later, authorities also took into custody Trey’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Helene Kistenmacher of Myrtle Beach.

The Girlfriend’s Role

Kistenmacher, the daughter of a local police officer, had introduced Trey to Raper during spring break. Investigators allege she lured Trey to the rural road in Johnsonville that night, fully aware Raper was armed and that tensions were running high. She now faces charges of accessory before the fact of a felony.

“There were issues between the boys, and it was over a female,” Sheriff T.J. Joye explained. “But at the end of the day, a 16-year-old lost his life, and another young man will likely spend his life behind bars. Over what?”

A Mother’s Pain

Ashley Lindsey, Trey’s mother, described her son’s girlfriend as a manipulative “queen bee” who stirred conflict the night he was killed.

The argument reportedly began when Kistenmacher accused Trey of being unfaithful. During the heated exchange, Raper appeared on a video call and brandished a firearm. Trey, believing he was heading into nothing more than a fistfight, was unaware of how grave the danger truly was.

“How do you go from arguing to killing someone?” Lindsey asked in anguish. “Back when I was young, if kids had problems, they’d fight with their fists and then go home. They didn’t pull out guns.”

Not a Love Triangle

Despite speculation, Lindsey rejects the theory that her son’s death was fueled by jealousy or romantic rivalry.

“Trey wasn’t into drama like that,” she insisted. “He told me just days before that being with Gianna felt like a dream come true. He may not have realized what was really happening.”

To her, the senseless killing stemmed from immaturity and reckless choices that spun out of control.

Evidence on Camera

According to Major Mike Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, video and photos from that night leave little room for dispute.

“Usually we’re piecing things together, but when people record these acts themselves, it takes the guesswork out,” Nunn said. “It’s hard to deny what’s right there on video.”

A Tragic Web of Charges

Along with Raper and Kistenmacher, seven other Myrtle Beach teens face charges connected to Trey’s death, including Hunter Matthew Kendall, 18; Sydney Marissa Kearns, 17; and Corrinne Elizabeth Belviso, 18. Several juveniles have also been charged, and investigators say one more suspect is expected to surrender.

For Trey’s grieving family, however, no number of arrests will bring back the boy they’ve lost.
