Snoop Dogg Faces Backlash Over Comments on LGBTQ+ Storylines in Children’s Films
Snoop Dogg has ignited a wave of criticism after voicing discomfort with LGBTQ+ representation in children’s movies, recounting a moment when his grandson questioned a same-sex parenting storyline in Disney’s Lightyear.
The 53-year-old rapper, appearing on Dr. Sarah Fontenot’s It’s Giving podcast on August 20, explained that he was caught off guard while watching the 2022 animated film with his grandson.
“They had a scene where two women were raising a child,” Snoop recalled. “In the middle of it, my grandson turns to me and says, ‘Papa Snoop, how can two women have a baby together?’ I didn’t even know what to say.”
The rapper admitted the situation left him frustrated and unprepared: “I just came to watch the movie, and suddenly I’m in the middle of a conversation I don’t have the answers for. It makes me scared to even take them to the movies sometimes.”
The moment, he said, “threw him for a loop,” questioning whether kids should be exposed to those kinds of storylines so young.
But his words sparked instant criticism online. Viewers on YouTube and social media accused Snoop of being out of touch. One commenter wrote, “You mean to tell me you’re in your 50s and still don’t know how to explain adoption or same-sex families to a child?” Another added, “It’s 2025, how is this still a problem?”
Others mocked his stance, with one X user posting, “Imagine being Snoop Dogg — the face of weed and gangster rap — but afraid of a cartoon lesbian couple.”
Later in the podcast, the rapper widened his critique, claiming that modern media often weakens portrayals of masculinity, especially for Black men. “I see commercials, TV shows, movies… and it feels like they’re stripping away strength from the Black man,” he said. “Yes, we should show different sides, but at the same time, don’t forget that men are the foundation of family and generations.”
He then proudly pointed to his own large family: “I’ve got 10 grandbabies — because this is the man.”
