Clark Mills Tornado: Community Mourns Loss and Begins Recovery

On June 22, 2025, the quiet town of Clark Mills, New York was devastated when an EF-1 tornado tore through its neighborhoods, carving a 2.4-mile path of destruction. With winds reaching up to 105 mph, the storm left behind shattered homes, uprooted trees, and heartbreak — claiming the lives of three residents.

A Heartbreaking Loss

Among the victims were six-year-old twin sisters Emily and Kenni Bisson, who were at home with their mother, Kayleigh, when the tornado struck. Neighbors were able to pull Kayleigh from the wreckage, but the girls tragically did not survive.

Another resident, Shelly Johnson, also lost her life when her home was hit. For many in Clark Mills, the loss was especially painful knowing that the Bisson family had only recently moved into the neighborhood, their future full of hope and new beginnings.

At Clinton Elementary School, where Emily and Kenni were first graders, grief counselors were brought in to help students and staff process the tragedy. Teachers remembered the twins as lively, joyful children who loved dancing, sports, and spreading laughter wherever they went.

A Community Rallies

In the aftermath, the community has surrounded Kayleigh with extraordinary support. A GoFundMe campaign raised more than $308,000 within days, with donations pouring in from across the nation. Friends and neighbors have offered not only financial relief but also compassion, prayers, and memories of the girls whose short lives left such a deep impact.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency across 32 counties affected by the storm system, mobilizing resources for emergency crews who continue to clear debris, restore power, and aid families in need.

Though the road to recovery will be long, Clark Mills has shown remarkable resilience. Residents have come together, proving that even in the face of unimaginable loss, the bonds of community can carry people forward.
