Colorado Town Grieves After Family of Five Killed in Highway Tragedy
Heartbreak has swept through Kremmling, Colorado, after a local family of five — three of them children — lost their lives in a devastating crash on Highway 9 earlier this month.
Authorities say the accident occurred on August 4, 2025, when a Ford F-150 veered into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with the family’s GMC Yukon. The victims were identified as 30-year-old Andrea Banuelos-Salazar, 34-year-old Manuel Cabral-Torres, and their children: Maria, 12; Manuel, 5; and Andres, 2. All had deep roots in Kremmling and ties to Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico.
The family was only minutes from home when the crash happened. The 25-year-old driver of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
The West Grand School District — where some of the children were enrolled — expressed condolences, pledging emotional and practical support to classmates and neighbors. Friends and relatives described the Cabral-Banuelos family as deeply loving and inseparable, always making time for one another. Cousin Javier Torres-Garcia recalled that Manuel never missed a chance to be with family, even if just for a short visit.
A GoFundMe created to cover funeral and transportation costs has already surpassed $80,000, fueled by donations from friends, neighbors, and strangers moved by the tragedy.
As tributes continue to pour in online, residents are not only honoring the family’s memory but also urging drivers to remain vigilant. Kremmling will remember the Cabral-Banuelos family for their warmth, kindness, and the joy they brought to everyone who knew them.
