Amy Schumer Jokes John Cena Was “Actually Inside Her” While Filming Steamy Trainwreck Scene
Comedian and actress Amy Schumer has never been shy about leaning into outrageous humor — and her latest throwback comment about filming with WWE star–turned–actor John Cena proves it.
While revisiting their 2015 romantic comedy Trainwreck, Schumer joked that during their intimate bedroom scene, Cena was “actually inside her.” In the film, Schumer plays a commitment-phobic magazine writer who finds herself entangled with Cena’s character, Steven — a ripped, fitness-obsessed gym bro.
Commenting on his famously chiseled physique, Schumer once teased, “That butt is like a whole universe… it’s not even human. It felt like a refrigerator was on top of me.” She added that, from her perspective, she didn’t have to exert much effort. “It was probably tougher for him. He had to do something, while I just did what I normally do during sex — just lay there.”
Cena himself has spoken openly about the filming experience. In a 2015 appearance on Conan, he admitted that the goal was to make the scene feel intentionally awkward — and they succeeded. More recently, on Club Shay Shay, he explained that despite the on-screen heat, the set was anything but romantic: “Catering was right there, the sound tent was right there… It was really embarrassing.”
When Schumer later caught wind of Cena’s comments, she playfully responded on Instagram: “That scene meant a lot to me, I was really into it… and I’m in love with you.”
The flirty back-and-forth is classic Schumer — blurring the line between comedic exaggeration and genuine affection, all while reminding fans that even the steamiest Hollywood scenes are far less glamorous behind the camera.
