Britain’s Youngest Parents: The Teenage Love Story That Turned Into a Lifelong Journey

Back in 2010, the names April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne were splashed across British headlines. The reason? At just 14 years old, they had become the youngest parents in the country—a title that would follow them for years.

April was only a day shy of her 14th birthday when she discovered she was pregnant. She and Nathan, both pupils at St. Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales, had been dating when their lives suddenly took a dramatic turn. The news shocked their families, especially since April had kept her pregnancy to herself for as long as she could out of embarrassment. Nathan later admitted they hadn’t used protection, saying he disliked contraceptives after a previous experience.

Despite the initial disappointment, their parents chose to rally around the young couple. Nathan’s father, Ron, a retired truck driver, told The Sun: “I told him he’d been foolish… but we’re not turning our backs on Jamie.” April’s mother, Maria, echoed his sentiment, giving her daughter the choice to continue the pregnancy and standing by her once she made her decision.

In November 2010, April gave birth to their son, Jamie, via emergency caesarean. Weighing 8lb 14oz, Jamie faced an immediate health challenge—a malformed esophagus that made feeding impossible without surgery. After a hospital stay and treatment, he was able to go home.

April was still living with her family, sharing a bedroom with her older sister, who helped with night feedings. Nathan lived with his parents a few miles away but wanted to share parenting duties, hoping to spend weekends with his son. Still, April admitted at the time that their relationship was uncertain and in a “cooling-off period.”

By 2014, it was clear the romance had ended. April confirmed they had no ongoing contact but said she had no regrets. She didn’t finish her GCSEs and chose to stay home to raise Jamie with the help of her mother and sister. “Maybe when he’s older, I’ll go to college,” she once said. “But I’m in no rush to have another baby.”

Fast forward to today, April—now going by April Lianna—is 28, a mother of three (Jamie, Ava Lianne, and Rowan David), and in a happy relationship with Jake Jones. She frequently shares family moments on social media, showing how far she’s come since those early days of teenage motherhood.

Nathan has also built a new life. In February 2023, he became engaged to his partner, Samantha, and together they are raising several children.

Becoming parents in their early teens brought April and Nathan challenges that most adults would struggle to handle—social judgment, lost school years, and the emotional toll of such an enormous responsibility. Yet, more than a decade later, their story has evolved into one of perseverance, growth, and a shared commitment to their son.

As Jamie grows into a young man, he has two parents who, despite their separate lives, remain proud of the journey they’ve traveled—from headline-making teenagers to devoted adults building futures of their own.
