Keanu Reeves Reveals Painful Injury While Filming His Latest Movie

Keanu Reeves has long held a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most beloved and humble stars. So when he recently opened up about an unexpected injury he suffered, fans were quick to show concern.

The 59-year-old actor appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week and shared a surprising incident that happened while working on his latest film project, Good Fortune.

Reeves revealed that he cracked his kneecap during filming — but not in the way fans might expect. Known for physically demanding roles in The Matrix and John Wick series, many assumed it was another high-stakes stunt. But this injury was more clumsy than cinematic.

When Colbert jokingly asked what happened — “Who got to you?” — Reeves leaned into a tough guy voice and answered, “No one got to me… accident got to me.”

Colbert pressed further, imagining elaborate scenarios: “Were you leaping across buildings? Rolling past razor blades?”

With a laugh, Reeves replied, “No, Stephen. I was walking into a room. I’ll keep it short.”

The actor explained that the injury happened while filming a scene alongside Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen. The trio had just finished a cold plunge and were doing what Keanu described as a “cold shuffle” — a stiff walk across the floor of a padded room.

Unfortunately, his foot caught in a carpet pocket mid-shuffle.

Standing up to reenact the moment in front of Colbert’s desk, Keanu demonstrated how his knee gave out and he fell hard. “And I spiked. Just spiked,” he said, mimicking the awkward tumble. “I drove my knee straight into the ground.”

Reeves added, “My patella cracked like a potato chip. I didn’t realize it right away, but the swelling gave it away.”

Colbert reminded the audience, “This wasn’t an action movie, right?”

“Nope, this was comedy,” Keanu grinned. “Comedy is hard, man.”

Back in January, Reeves had been seen on set walking with crutches and icing his knee, likely during the recovery period from the incident.

Good Fortune, a comedy written and directed by Aziz Ansari, marks his feature film directorial debut. The film stars Reeves, Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh.

Despite the mishap, Keanu seems to be in good spirits — showing once again that even in comedy, he gives it his all.
