Deadly Crash on Mexico-Querétaro Highway Claims 19 Lives
Huehuetoca, State of Mexico – A devastating accident unfolded on Wednesday, November 20, along the Mexico-Querétaro Highway at kilometer marker 059+000, just outside Huehuetoca. A trailer truck, reportedly unable to brake in time, plowed into multiple vehicles, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 19 people.
The incident occurred as the trailer headed toward Mexico City. Near the Jorobas junction, the driver lost control, allegedly due to slick road conditions caused by rainfall earlier in the day. The vehicle veered into a roadside barrier before crashing into a cluster of five cars and a pickup truck.
Following the collision, the trailer came to rest sprawled across all three lanes of the northbound side of the highway, prompting emergency crews to partially shut down the road while they responded to the scene.
Though initial reports suggested many victims suffered only minor injuries, the death toll later climbed as officials confirmed more casualties. Local paramedics treated survivors on-site and recommended hospital evaluation for those with lingering symptoms.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. While rainy weather and poor traction are suspected contributors, a full forensic analysis is underway to determine whether mechanical failure or human error played a part.
Transportation officials urged drivers in the region to exercise heightened caution, especially during wet weather, and reminded heavy vehicle operators of the importance of brake maintenance and reduced speeds in high-risk zones.
This tragic event has left the nation in mourning as families await answers and justice for the lives lost.
