Beloved Comedian Tony Knight Dies After Tree Falls at Music Festival in France
Comedian Tony Knight, 54, tragically lost his life in an accident last month while attending the Rock & Cars music festival in Lavaur, France. According to a family member who spoke with Fox News Digital, a massive tree limb unexpectedly collapsed onto a group of attendees, fatally striking Tony while others nearby escaped serious injury.
Known for his wit, warmth, and deep love for animals, Tony had been in excellent health and was preparing for a comedy tour in the UK at the time. “He had such energy—so much love, humor, and passion,” a relative shared. “Tony was adored by Hayley, his partner, and by friends and family across the globe.”
French authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, which has stunned the local community and Tony’s fans around the world. Tributes poured in on social media, with many expressing disbelief at the suddenness of the loss. “He brought joy and laughter to so many. It’s hard to believe he’s gone,” one mourner posted. Others echoed the sentiment, offering condolences and remembering his unique ability to brighten any room.
Tony was also known for his devotion to dogs. Describing himself as a “dog listener,” he taught people innovative ways to connect with their pets and had been scheduled to lead canine behavior classes across Europe. His sold-out live show, Mad Dogs and an Englishman, had recently seen success in Australia and elsewhere.
Beyond comedy, Tony had acting credits in several films including Unicorn City (2012), The Legend of Awesomest Maximus (2011), and The Saxon Chronicles (2006), according to IMDb.
Though originally from England and officially residing in Australia, Tony spent the last four years living with Hayley on her family’s farm in Beaufort. The couple had been together for nearly 15 years.
In the wake of his passing, Hayley Wright launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral and medical expenses. As of July 5, over $8,000 had been raised toward the $20,000 goal. Hayley’s sister noted on the page that Tony “touched lives around the world, both through laughter and through his work with animals.”
There are reports that Hayley is planning to scatter Tony’s ashes in France, a country he came to love deeply.
