Medical Examiner Confirms Cause of Death for Chad Lowe’s Little angel 13-Year-Old Daughter Fiona

For years, Chad Lowe’s social media offered glimpses into a life centered around his three daughters  birthdays, family outings, sunsets and the ordinary moments that make up childhood.

Fiona, the middle of Chad and Kim Painter’s three daughters, was growing up surrounded by family and the things she loved most.

Now, those memories have taken on a heartbreaking meaning.

Fiona died at just 13 years old on September 29, 2026.

The family first announced her death in a devastating statement.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.”

Authorities were called to the family’s home at 12:10 a.m., a detail that was not included in the family’s initial statement.

The exact time adds an ominous detail to an already heartbreaking story.

Her cause of death has since been confirmed as suicide, according to the medical examiner’s report.

They continued:

“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”

The family also shared information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Rob Lowe’s reaction

Fiona was the second of Chad and Kim’s three daughters and the niece of actor and filmmaker Rob Lowe.

Chad Lowe is now receiving support from his brother, Rob Lowe, following the heartbreaking death of his 13-year-old daughter.

A source told People on October 1 that Chad and Rob have always been very close, and that their family and friends have surrounded Chad and Kim during this devastating time.

“Rob and Chad are very close. Their family and friends have rallied around Chad and Kim,” the source said. “Everyone’s heartbroken.”

“They already went through so much with losing their home last year,” the source added. “Right now, the focus is on being there for them in any way they can.”

A daughter who brought joy to her family

Fiona was growing up alongside her sisters, Mabel and Nixie, while her father often spoke publicly about how much being a dad meant to him.

During a 2024 conversation, Chad described having daughters as “such an incredible privilege.”

He explained that becoming a father had changed the way he understood the world.

“It’s taken what I’ve known intellectually and it’s put it in my heart because I now have three daughters,” he said.

Family life for the Lowes was largely kept away from Hollywood’s spotlight.

Instead, Chad occasionally shared small glimpses of his daughters’ childhoods  hiking, spending time outdoors, celebrating birthdays and watching sunsets together.

One of those simple traditions was particularly meaningful to him.

Chad loved watching the sunset and would often encourage one of his daughters to join him. When work kept him away, one of the girls would sometimes send him photos of the sunset from home.

They were ordinary family moments at the time.

Now, they are precious memories.

Fiona loved to dance

As Fiona grew older, dance became one of the biggest passions in her life.

When Chad celebrated her 13th birthday, he shared a heartfelt message marking another milestone in his daughter’s life.

He ended the post with a simple message:

“Keep dancing through life.”

Those words now carry an especially painful meaning for the family.

People who knew Fiona outside of the public eye remembered her as a kind and artistic teenager.

Her school community described her as “sweet, quiet and kind,” while those who knew her spoke about her creativity and her love of dance.

Following her death, the school reached out to families and made counseling support available to students and staff.

The family had already endured a devastating loss

The Lowes had faced another major upheaval just months earlier.

In January 2025, the Pacific Palisades Fire destroyed the family’s home, wiping out roughly a decade of memories.

Chad later shared photographs showing what remained of the property.

“This is what remains of 10 years of building our lives,” he wrote.

But he also focused on what could not be destroyed.

“We have each other.”

Nearly a month after the fire, Chad brought his three daughters back to see what remained of their childhood home.

He praised the girls for the way they handled the devastating experience, describing their “spirit and resilience” as remarkable.

“Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege,” he wrote.

The family began rebuilding their lives after the fire.

There were still birthdays to celebrate, family moments to share and memories to make.

No one could have known that another devastating loss was ahead.

Remembering Fiona

Fiona’s family has asked for privacy as they navigate the unimaginable loss of a child.

Her grandfather, Chuck Lowe, shared a simple tribute alongside a photograph of Fiona:

“Rest in peace sweet Fiona.”

For those who knew her, Fiona was much more than the daughter of a Hollywood actor.

She was a sister, granddaughter, friend and dancer — a young girl with her own personality, dreams and future ahead of her.

Her parents’ final public tribute captured just how deeply she was loved.

“She was the light of our lives.”

And that is how they want her to be remembered.

Not simply for the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding her death, but for the life she lived, the people she loved and the joy she brought to the family who will carry her memory forward.
